Thrilling win for Lancashire Colts



Alex Davies hit 63 and captured four dismissals for the Colts

Lancashire Colts began their 2011 campaign in the Furness Building Society Northern Premier Cricket League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls) with a thrilling four wickets win over Fleetwood at Broadwater.

Scott Kirwin (Hyde CC) was the Colts hero with a mature innings of 54 not out off as many balls as the Colts got home with five balls to spare.

Darwen's Alex Davies was another big success for the Colts, keeping wicket impressively to take four dismissals, including two stumpings and then scoring 63 off 89 balls.

Fleetwood had made 199 for 7 with Adam Parker (43), Cambridge MCCU wicketkeeper Dean Bell (43), Mike Clinning (38 not out) and pro Ryan Smith (41) all in the runs.
Liam Watkinson was the Colts' most successful bowler with three for 55.

Opener Mark Walling (Garstang CC) made 30 and helped give the Colts a solid start but after Davies was caught by Tom Wilson off Sam Bell the home side looked favourites.

Kirwin and skipper Jack Dewhurst came together with the Colts 144 for 6 and batted superbly to see their side through to a fine victory in the final over. Joe Bell, one of three brothers in the home side was Fleetwood's best bowler with three for 19 while pro Smith took two for 39.
