The Furness Building Society Cup Final at Parkside Road suffered a wash-out and Netherfield and Kendal will now start all over again next Sunday.
A new match will commence on Sunday 6 September with a 1pm start.
Netherfield will have to employ a substitute professional as Glen Batticciotto flies home on Tuesday to commence training with Queensland.
On a drizzly overcast afternoon Kendal skipper Ross McMillan invited Netherfield to bat after winning the toss.
After a slightly delayed start Netherfield had reached 76 for 3 in the 13th over when the rain became too heavy to continue.
The match was abandoned shortly after 3pm.
Teenager Alex Atkinson, who made his Cumberland county debut against Bedfordshire in the last Minor Counties game of the season, had looked in prime form.
Atrkinson hit 42 off 41 balls including two fours and three sixes before he was caught behind down the leg side by Donovan Du Plessis off Jack White.

Du Plessis had also made a superb catch to dismiss Craig Walmsley off Stu Parkin while John Huck was bowled by White for no score.
Batticciotto, making his final appearance at Parkside Road, was 16 not out when the rains came.

Preston bowed out of the Cockspur Club Twenty20 despite a fighting performance against crack north east outfit Chester Le Street at West Cliff.
The Northern Premier League's Twenty20 cup winners went down by 50 runs in the first of the national stages.
Chester Le Street, who have already reached the ECB National Club Championship final and who are leading the North East Premier League are an outstanding side but Preston gave a good account of themselves.
Handicapped by having pro and captain Bilal Asad ineligible for the competition, Preston did well to restrict the visitors to 168 for 5 in their 20 overs.
Chester Le Street opener Liam Simpson hit 57 off 34 balls and received good support from Andrew Smith (38) and Andrew Bell (26 not out).
Jonty McDonald was Preston's most successful bowler with a spell of three for 31.
Preston opened well with Sajid Patel (30) and captain Adam Parker (14) posting 48 for the first wicket.
But despite valuable contributions from Lukman Vahaluwala (24) and McDonald (17) Preston fell behind the run rate and were restricted to 118 for 8 in their 20 overs.
Anthony Tye took three for 15 for the visitors and Richard Waite, who was Kendal's sub-pro earlier in the season, claimed two for 24.
