KENDAL'S LORD'S DREAM OVER

By Michael Latham

Gleeson makes mark with bat and ball

Kendal's Tony Yasin falls to a catch behind in the second over

Kendal's dream of a Lord's final appearance disappeared but Barrow reached the county cup final while Paul Danson's Northern League Select side defeated Lancashire in the Mal Loye Testimonial at Blackpool.

Kendal's Terry Hunte gets runs on the leg side

Kendal had reached the last 16 of the ECB Cockspur Cup but their hopes of progressing further were ended by Derbyshire County Premier League side Sandiacre Town at Shap Road.
Put into bat on an initially damp pitch, Kendal were bowled out for 109 in the 41st over, losing their last nine wickets for just 57 runs after Terry Hunte's dismissal to a catch at mid-wicket. When opener Kevin Howarth departed lbw Kendal were 67 for 3 in the 20th over and thereafter it was a tale of woe for the home batsmen against an impressive bowling attack.
Sandiacre Town's captain John Trueman then hit an unbeaten 51 to steer his side to an eight wicket win with 14.3 overs to spare. Trueman's second wicket partnership of 98 with Akil Patel (40) took the game away from Kendal after Stuart Parkin had struck early to remove James Chapman. By the time Ben Simm snapped up a caught-and-bowled to dismiss Patel Sandiacre were just six runs away from their victory target

Handshakes all round after Sandiacre's victory at Kendal

Meanwhile Barrow reached the Cumbrian Cup Final after a six-wicket win at Haverigg.
Haverigg made 155 for 8 with Barrow bowler Iain Kermode impressing in a spell of one for 8 off his eight overs. Pro Pasan Wanasinghe (55) and Darren Clark (52 not out) then steered Barrow home.
Barrow's final opponents are not yet determined with Netherfield waiting to play the winners of the delayed quarter-final tie between Keswick and Workington in the other semi-final.

The Mal Loye testimonial T20 at Stanley Park ended in victory for Paul Danson's Northern League Select XI in dramatic circumstances with in-form Blackpool paceman Richard Gleeson the hero.
Gleeson took four wickets, including a last over hat-trick as Lancashire were restricted to 167 for 9. Lou Vincent was top scorer with 80 (including five sixes) before becoming the first of Gleeson's hat-trick that also included Oliver Newby and Mark Chilton who were both clean-bowled. Leyland's Peter Cummings hit four sixes in 45 and Gleeson then hit 32 not out as Danson's side, which included Blackpool FC manager Simon Grayson, won by one wicket off the last ball of the match.
