SUNDAY ROUND UP

CUP TIE RESULTS

By Michael Latham

Ryan Wilson took three wickets in Netherfield's exciting cup victory

There were mixed results for 3D Sports Northern Premier League clubs in Sunday's cup-ties that escaped the weather.

Netherfield defeated Bolton League club Horwich RMI in an exciting ECB Cockspur Cup third round tie at Parkside Road.
In a rain-affected game Netherfield totalled 250 for 4 in 41 overs with skipper Chris Parry leading the way with 70. Ben Haddrick made 44 and 15-year-old Graeme Baker 41.
RMI were set a revised target of 237 in 39 overs and fell just short at 236 for 9. For the visitors Phil Cavill finished unbeaten on 66 and Chris Baxendale made 46. Ryan Wilson took 3 for 57.

While Netherfield were winning by one run Leyland lost by the same margin at the same stage of the competition.
Their tie against Cheshire League team Hyde was reduced to just 10 overs per side at Fox Lane.
Hyde made 76 for 6, Peter Cummings taking 3 for 10.
Leyland finished just short on 75 for 8.

While Netherfield got a game in, just across town Kendal's game against Lytham was rained off and the two sides will try again this Sunday.

The all Northern League clash between Barrow and Fleetwood went the way of the visitors. In a game reduced to 20 overs per side Barrow made 119 and Fleetwood reached their target with five wickets to spare with an over in hand largely thanks to Adam Parker's 40.

Meanwhile Carnforth crashed out of the Cumbria Cup at Haverigg as chairman Mark Holmes reports:
"After a short rain delay at the start we played un-interrupted at Haverigg and very sadly crumbled to an embarrassing defeat.
"We won the toss and fielded first. Thanks to some tight bowling and good motivated fielding we managed to keep Haverigg to 172 for 5 from their 36 overs. Pick of the bowlers was Gareth Denwood.

Gareth Denwood was Carnforth's best bowler in their defeat at Haverigg

"Lewis Bradley and Ryan Bailey opened the batting putting on 89 for the first wicket in 17 overs and we looked well set. But they were both out in quick succession and the rest of the batsman struggled to come to terms with some good tight bowling on what it has to be said was an excellent batting pitch. Carnforth were eventually all out off the last ball for 153.

"The Haverigg team and their spectators obviously valued our scalp as their celebrations resembled a football team winning the cup final.
"Good luck to them in the next round. I must heartily congratulate them on their "comeback from the dead" and also on the excellent condition of their square and outfield. Certainly the best kept I have seen at a club ground for a long time."
