Kendal beat St Annes in the Lancashire Cup on Sunday but there was an agonising last ball defeat for Preston at Prestwich.
Barrow made progress in the Cumbria Cup with a convincing victory over Caldbeck.
Preston were dismissed for 185 in 42 overs at Prestwich, Paul Mann making 37 and Manuf Bavla 36. In reply Rhys Williams took three quick wickets to help reduce the home side to 24 for 5. But Chris Thomas (53) and Chris Humphreys put on 91 for the sixth wicket and wicket-keeper Gareth Barnes and Richard Scargill added 57 for the eighth wicket. Prestwich won by one wicket off the last ball of the match.
At Ernest Pass Barrow defeated Caldbeck by nine wickets, restricting the visitors to 124 for 8 in their 40 overs. Barrow knocked off the runs in 20 overs with Jon Miles 65 not out. Tod Bamber made 30 and Ian Allington was undefeated on 22 at the close.

Kendal progressed further in the Lancashire Cup by virtue of a 48-runs victory at a sun-kissed though blustery Vernon Road against 3D Sports Northern Premier League rivals St Annes.
Professional Ross McMillan provided the cornerstone of Kendal's match-winning total of 208 for 6 against a weakened St Annes side.
The highly-rated South African hit an impressive 73 before becoming one of 17-year-old Greg Whitehead's three victims, bowled in the final over.
Gareth Ashburner's patient innings of 33 and Terry Hunte's explosive 39 helped Kendal overcome the loss of captain Ikram Ullah, who was adjudged lbw to Whitehead with the score on 23. The pair added 60 before Hunte was superbly caught by stand-in wicket-keeper Aiden Cotton off Mansoor Ahmed's leg-spin.
McMillan upped the tempo of the innings, reaching his half-century off 46 balls and going on to hit nine boundaries.
Oliver Killiner provided valuable support with a
ll-struck 28.
St Annes stuck to their task well, bowling tightly and fielding keenly despite losing overnight the services of Atiq Uz-Zaman and captain Duncan Whalley from an already under-strength side. Both players were injured in the victory over Preston on Saturday.

Andy Kellett and Cotton gave St Annes a solid start of 35 for the first wicket before the latter was bowled by Stuart Parkin. Kellett batted well before he was caught behind off Parkin and deputy captain Gareth Evans was superbly caught by Ben Simm at cover to leave St Annes 51 for 3.
St Annes professional Mansoor Ahmed took on the Kendal bowling and looked a likely match-winner before he was caught at cover by Kendal captain Ikram Ullah off McMillan. St Annes were 110 for 4 in the 25th over.
John Musgrave batted superbly and was on the verge of a well-deserved half-century but had precious little support before he was eighth man out, caught by Parkin at cover off Simm.
Simm polished off the tail, ending with four for 25 as St Annes were bowled out for 160 with 6.2 overs unused.
