Chairman's Report 2013
I will start my Report this year on an extremely sad note. Late in 2013 and early in 2014 sadly two former stalwarts of the League passed away.
Jim Kenyon over his many years of involvement with our League and local cricket throughout the area put in a tremendous effort in the coaching, advising and teaching the game to many aspiring young Players and established Cricketers. Jim was always readily available to pass on his expert knowledge of the game to anyone willing to learn and advance in the Sport.
Norman Ellis after many years of illness sadly passed away early in this year. In my view after knowing Norman for many happy years he was an absolute gentleman and a nicer man you could never find.
Norman was President of both the League and Lancaster Cricket Club for again many years and of course Chairman of both again for many years giving his vast experience of the game to both
The sad loss of both these two friends of the League will be hard to accept and we will miss them both. I would like to offer my deep condolences to their families and friends.
In Season 2014 will see a newcomer to the League as Penrith Cricket Club have decided to join us and I welcome them. Penrith CC is a very well organised Cricket Club in nice setting and the Chairman, in his own words, is keen to advance the Club by playing a better class of cricket in our League.
Once again our Sponsors, Chorley Building Society and TWP Wealth have agreed to sponsor the League again in 2014 and I truly thank them for their generosity
Returning to season 2013 the first Division title was won by Leyland CC but they were run very close by Barrow CC as it went right to the last match.
The Second Division Title was won by Morecambe CC but again Barrow chased them all the way by finishing Second.
The Readers Cup First Division was won by Blackpool who overcame Leyland at Fox Lane and the Second Division Cup was won by Leyland who defeated Fleetwood on a cold, wet day at Broadwater.
The TWP Wealth Twenty/20 Cup was won by Netherfield who overcame all at Parkside Road
Finally I would like to offer my sincere thanks to our Umpires for the sterling work that they do week in week out and to all involved in our Clubs be they Players, Officials, Catering Ladies etc who make the League what it is.
Let us hope that we have a good dry Summer ahead and once again exciting cricket.
Thank you,
Norman Poole, Chairman
