LCB wins for Barrow and Blackpool

Darwen reach ECB National Club Championship Group Final

Barrow and Blackpool reached the third round of the LCB Lancashire Cup but defending league champions Leyland crashed out of the competition at home to Clifton.

Darwen reached the group final of the ECB Club Championship but Kendal were knocked out of the Cumbria County Cup.

In the MCCA Trophy Cumberland, including five Northern League players reached the last eight stage after defeating holders Shropshire at Netherfield CC.

At Ernest Pass Barrow pro Pieter Malan hit a superb 131 off 126 balls including 20 fours to spearhead his side's imposing 306/4 against Hindley St Peter's. Rob Lightfoot made 50 off 71 balls, Iain Kermode an unbeaten 42 off 36 balls and Graham Dawson crashed 48 off 23 balls with three fours and four sixes.

St Peter's were 190 all out in reply, leaving Barrow victorious by 116 runs. Mark Jones made 50 and Andrew Tickle 42 with Dawson completing a fine all-round game by taking 5/30 from nine overs.

Blackpool pro Con De Lange steered his side to victory by seven wickets over Darcy Lever at Stanley Park. De Lange shared a second wicket stand of 78 with John Mounsey (42) before going on to finish the game with 47 balls in hand. DeLange was unbeaten on 93 at the close.

Earlier De Lange took 2/11 from his nine overs and Sam Owen 2/23 as Darcy Lever made 177/8.

Leyland lost at home to Central Lancashire League side Clifton after being bowled out for 160 at Fox Lane. After a mid innings rain interruption knocked three overs off the match, Leyland collapsed from 114/2, losing their last eight wickets for 46 runs. David Fisher top-scored with 41.

Lancashire Over-50s captain Glen Bullock batted superbly to make 46 as Clifton won by five wickets.

In the third round Blackpool travel to play Bolton League side Greenmount CC on Sunday 3 July (1pm). Barrow are at home to Central Lancashire League side Rochdale CC on a date to be arranged.

In the ECB Club Championship Darwen reached the regional final after winning by eight wickets at Roe Green.

In a match reduced to 37 overs Darwen pro Mohmmad Zaman Khan took 3/27 to help restrict the home side to 163/7. Khan (77no) and skipper John Cordingley (66no) then shared an unbroken third wicket stand of 151 to steer their side past their target in 24.4 overs.

Darwen will be away to the winners of the semi-final between Farnworth Social Circle and Prestwich (arranged for 19 June) in the Group 6 final on Sunday 3 July 2011.

Kendal lost by 144 runs at Workington in the County Cup, bowled out for 165 (Jamie How 64) in replay to the home side's 299/4.

Meanwhile Cumberland reached the quarter-finals of the MCCA Trophy after beating Shropshire at Parkside Road. They clinched runners-up spot ahead of Cheshire on net run rate behind holders Shropshire who had already won Group One.

Shropshire made 286/6 in their 50 overs with captain Ed Foster (71), Tom Cox (60) and Anthony Parker (56) the major contributors.

Light spots of rain then delayed the re-start until 6-15pm when Cumberland were set a revised target of 119 to win in 15 overs under the Duckworth/Lewis Method.

Kendal's Jon Miles blasted 33 and Ikram Ullah (Morecambe) an unbeaten 41 as Cumberland won by six wickets.

In the quarter-final Cumberland are away to Herefordshire at Brockhampton CC on Sunday 19 June (11am).

The winners of that tie will be away to the winners of the Berkshire-Wales MC tie in the semi-final. The Final will be held at Lord's.

Morecambe's Chris Williams, Barrow's Liam Livingstone and Alex Atkinson (Netherfield) were also in the Cumberland side.
