On the
ball: Matt Frith hit 97 for the second day running for
Fleetwood |
Fleetwood continued their fine form in the
Readers Cup, following up their first round win over St Annes
with a 31 runs success over Leyland at Broadwater.
Matt Clark's side will now face Morecambe in the
semi-final at Woodhill Lane on Sunday 8 August.
In the
other semi-final Darwen take on Blackpool. The final is
scheduled for 22 August.
Professional Matt Frith hit 97 for the second
day in a row to spearhead Fleetwood's challenging 221 for 8 in
their 40 overs. Frith, who was stumped by Matthew Watkinson
agonisingly short of his century shared a third wicket
partnership of 177 with wicketkeeper Dean Bell, who hit a fine
73. Leyland captain David Makinson was the most successful
bowler with four for 32 while pro Brett Pelser returned three
for 28.
Sam Bell claimed the early wickets of Nathan
McDonnell and Henry Thompson but Pelser hit 47 in Leyland's
reply before he became one of Tom Wilson's victims as the
Fleetwood all rounder claimed three for 23.
Opener Luis
Reece made 40 before he was caught by Wilson off the bowling
of Adam Breakell.
Despite useful contributions from Karl Cross
(32), Peter Cummings (25) and Chris Parkinson (24) Leyland
were bowled out for 190, Ryan Smith claiming three late
wickets to complete a fine all round team performance by the
home side.
